1tbShare
Large-file transfer on the Joy edge — upload up to 1 TB per transfer, share a link, expire it when you want.
What 1tbShare is
1tbShare (1tbshare.com) is Joy's large-file transfer service. You upload a file or a folder — up to one terabyte per transfer — and get a link to share. The recipient downloads from the nearest Joy edge over the anycast CDN, so a 50 GB dataset arriving in Mumbai is served from Mumbai, not from a bucket on another continent. Files live in Joy object storage; you choose when the link expires and can revoke it at any time.
It exists because our own customers kept asking how to move VM images, game builds, video masters and database dumps between teams without email limits, consumer file-sharing quotas or a ticket to open a bucket. Every Joy customer can use it from the console; the public site offers the same service on its own plans.
How it works
- Upload from the browser (resumable, chunked — a dropped connection continues where it stopped) or with the CLI for very large sets.
- Share the link, optionally protected by a password and limited to a number of downloads.
- Deliver through the CDN; recipients see download speeds limited by their own connection, not by a central server.
- Expire automatically after the period you set (1 day to 90 days) or revoke earlier; data is deleted from storage within 24 hours of expiry.
Features
- Transfers up to 1 TB; individual files up to 1 TB; no limit on the number of files per transfer.
- Resumable uploads over HTTPS; parallel chunking saturates gigabit connections.
- Password protection, download limits, expiry, and per-link download logs (time, country, bytes).
- Delivery from every Joy edge with HTTP/2 and HTTP/3; range requests for download managers.
- Encryption in transit (TLS 1.3) and at rest; links are unguessable 128-bit tokens.
- API for automated transfers — create a transfer, upload chunks, fetch the link — with the same Bearer tokens as the Joy console.
Plans
| Plan | Included | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Joy customers | 100 GB active storage, 1 TB transfers, 7-day expiry | free with any paid Joy service |
| Pro | 1 TB active storage, 90-day expiry, passwords and download limits, API | $9 / month |
| Team | 5 TB active storage, shared workspace, branded download page, audit log | $39 / month |
Active storage is the total size of files that have not yet expired. Egress is included; abusive patterns (public file-hosting for unrelated third parties) are handled under the Acceptable Use Policy.
Good uses
VM images and backups
Move a snapshot export from one provider to a Joy server with a single wget.
Game builds
Distribute nightly builds to testers on three continents from the nearest edge.
Media production
Send masters and proxies to clients with a password and a download receipt.
Datasets
Share training data with a research partner without provisioning them a bucket.
Privacy
We do not scan file contents. Metadata (filenames, sizes, download logs) is retained for 30 days after expiry for abuse handling and then deleted. Law-enforcement requests are handled as described in the Privacy policy. Report abuse of a 1tbShare link to abuse@joy.services with the link and a timestamp.
Using it from the command line
For very large transfers the CLI is faster than a browser because it uploads chunks in parallel and resumes automatically. Authenticate with a Joy API token and point it at a file or a directory:
export JOY_TOKEN=joy_xxx
1tb put ./backup-2026-09.tar.zst --expire 7d --password
# → https://1tbshare.com/t/8f3a… (link printed when the upload completes)
1tb ls # your active transfers
1tb rm 8f3a… # revoke a link earlyRecipients need nothing but the link: wget, curl -O and download managers all work, and range requests let interrupted downloads resume.
